

Great Variety for Summer 2013 at Waterside Theatre!
The Waterside Theatre hosts a range of quality arts and entertainment throughout the year such as drama, dance, comedy, live music, cinema and children's theatre. It also produces an extensive Education Programme.
The new summer May - August 2013 programme is getting underway. A wide range of excellent shows are on offer to entice audiences into the Waterside theatre, with state of the art facilities over the summer months!
Children's shows at the Waterside Theatre have never been better with the Hidden Treasures Children's Theatre Festival from 16th - 23rd May. The Hidden Treasures Festival has magnificent performances from Clydebuilt Puppet theatre with Rapunzel and Magic of the Mummy; also a Magical Clown show, Legendary Tales, Each Peach Pear Plum, Craic in the Box and a Festival in a Day! A fantastic week of family fun and entertainment!
There is also great drama beginning with Widow's Paradise, an Ulster farce from the pen of Sam Cree. We are also delighted to have The National Theatre, bringing their production of Romeo and Juliet, suitable for schools and families with children aged eight years and upwards. The Wood of the Crows - the story of Half-Hanged McNaghten, is a moving drama from the pen of Stan McGowan. Brian Friel's Oliver and Tony Award winning play Dancing at Lughnasa and The Pride by Jonathan Burgess are also two productions to look forward to in the new season programme. Youth Night, organised by the Youth and Children's department of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, is an event for young people 11-18 and their theme is Hope Uncovered.
The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival will bring big band Brass Impact to the Waterside Theatre. The Ulster Orchestra brings an improvisation extravaganza - Cake Club Orchestra. One of the most popular leading ladies in musical theatre, Rebecca Storm is in concert and there is a Variety Concert with Rev David McBeth. Two brand new choirs will take part in Unison in Harmony - Singing for All and Cumber Claudy PS and St.Colmcille PS with be performing a Spring Concert. The Billie Girl & Sontas, will perform a theatre in education project and there is music also this season by Cullybackey Pipe Band, a newly commissioned suite entitled Dalriada. There will be An Evening of Music in Celebration to the Royal Irish Regiment and five local primary schools are taking part in Sounds for Summer with songwriter David Oliver.
The Waterside Theatre also has the City's first Bollywood Movie Club with films this season being Saalam Bombay and My Name is Khan. There is also a free of charge Summer Camp for Young People with Disabilities in partnership with Western Health and Social Care Trust.
Also 'Cascade Gallery', at the Waterside Theatre, will be showing work from local artist Sean O Donnell for May/June and the months of June/July will be exhibiting paintings from Liverpool artist Jane Hughes.
